Attachment wounds are like painful sunburns. We can still go about our day-to-day lives, but we also do our best to guard against anyone bumping up against or touching them because the WOUNDS HURT!
When they get hit, poked, or prodded - we either pull away or we become defensive. We do this to cope with the pain.
But that doesn't make us feel any better.
Joy crumbles. Anxiety sky-rockets. Our ability to do the normal life activities we used to do feels overwhelming. Anxiety can be overpowering.
We may feel bitterness, rage, and resentment or we may isolate, withdraw, and numb. Our attempts to shut down the pain can lead to lifelong consequences.
WE RESORT TO NUMBING OUR PAIN
Whether it be with food, spending money, gambling, smoking, doing drugs, sex, or any other of thousand ways of numbing, we are hoping that our suffering will stop. It doesn't. It numbs everything - our joy, our peace, our happiness. And then we feel even worse. We reinforce our negative belief that there really is something wrong with us.
WE PUT ON A MASK
We pretend that everything is ok. We work harder on the outside so that nobody will find out what is going on on the inside.
Our ability to have healthy boundaries is impaired. We may find ourselves having a hard time saying no to others or we may find ourselves pushing others away. We feel like frauds and are certain that at any given moment, someone is going to find out!
AS A RESULT, OUR CLOSEST RELATIONSHIPS HANG IN THE BALANCE OR THEY BLOW UP IN A MESSY EXPLOSION OF DRAMA. OUR ATTACHMENT WOUNDS GET WORSE INSTEAD OF BETTER. WE MAY EVEN STRUGGLE WITH DARK THOUGHTS OF HOPELESSNESS AND SUICIDE.
It doesn't have to be like that any longer!
There is a way out! There is a way up!
I have suffered from all six of the attachments. The most painful have been rejection and abandonment wounds. I battled addiction. I wrestled with shame. It was destroying my relationships with my wife and my family.
I knew that if I didn't find a way out, I was going to die.
I embarked on a journey to understand what was happening to me.
I needed to know:
Is healing possible?
Can I really rewrite the negative core beliefs I've had tattoed onto my heart?
Can I stop feeling ashamed?

How I Found Peace
Through my studies a Social Worker, doing my own work in therapy, attending retreats and therapeutic training, and reading hundreds of books, I began to understand how healing my attachment wounds was possible. I found that the negative core beliefs I believed about myself could be removed. I shrunk my shame. I found tools and strategies to ground myself. I stopped the compulsive numbing behaviors. My relationships with my family improved. I developed deeper friendships than I had ever had before.
I began using this process with others and watched them experience healing too. Regretfully, I was only able to help people one person at a time. I knew the power that this model has on helping people heal. I wanted to share it with more people. I wrote the workbook Finding Peace and quickly became an Amazing Best-Selling author.
